Which? Insight Day – Exploring the World of Consumer Rights

Updated: 2 days ago

Students from across London and beyond joined us for an inspiring Insight Day with Which?, the UK’s leading consumer champion. The event offered young people a unique opportunity to step into the world of consumer rights, understand the importance of safe and fair products, and discover how Which? helps people make confident choices every day.

Understanding the Mission of Which?

Early in the day, students were welcomed by a senior member of the Which? team, who introduced the organisation’s purpose, its role in championing consumers, and the impact its work has across the country. This overview set the foundation for a day of learning, exploration and hands-on experience.

Speed Networking Across Departments

The morning continued with lively icebreakers followed by speed networking sessions with colleagues from across the organisation. Students had the chance to speak directly with staff from teams such as Product Testing, Advocacy, Helpline Services and Digital. These conversations helped them understand the breadth of careers at Which? and the many paths people take into consumer-focused work.

The Consumer Family Challenge

After lunch, students took on the Consumer Family Challenge, a practical activity designed to bring consumer issues to life. Working in teams, they were assigned a fictional family facing a real-world problem, such as a faulty appliance, a confusing contract or an online scam. Using the Which? website and magazine, they researched solutions and created posters to present their findings.

The challenge strengthened teamwork, communication and critical-thinking skills, while giving students a taste of how consumer advocacy works in practice.

Closing Reflections

The day concluded with closing remarks from Jaisha Bruce, Trustee at Open Palm, who encouraged students to seize opportunities, believe in their abilities and take confidence from all they had achieved. Her message reinforced the purpose of the programme: to broaden horizons and help young people imagine new possibilities for their futures.

"Working with Which? is incredibly powerful for our young people. They get to experience consumer advocacy up close, understand how meaningful the work is, and see how many different roles contribute to protecting people every day. When they meet professionals, ask questions, and try their hand at genuine tasks, their confidence grows in ways a classroom simply can’t replicate." - Jaisha Bruce, Open Palm, Trustee

Why Insight Days Matter

Opportunities like these are crucial for young people, offering real-world insight that goes far beyond what can be learned in a classroom. By meeting professionals, hearing career journeys and working through meaningful challenges, students gain clarity about the world of work, build confidence and spark new ambition.

These experiences help bridge the gap between education and employment, and that is why continuing to offer Insight Days remains such an important part of our work.

A huge thank you to everyone at Which? for welcoming our students so warmly and creating such a memorable and engaging day of learning.
